  1. This article talks about the crisis in Egypt which is why I chose it. The article discusses why protests are happening in the Africa. Egyptians are tired of the leaders 30 year rule and demand democracy. Hosni Mubarak refuses to step down until the next election for president in September. He is planning to get Egypt under control again while he is still in office. After 13 days of violent and bloody protests, I believe the Mubarak should step down. He is not going to get anything under control within his presidency so it is better to end the conflict immediately. His security forces have killed and been killed by protesters which are civilians. This series of horrible circumstances must stop before more lives are taken.

  2. My article is about the Super Bowl, and the Packers' victory. I chose this article because I am interested in sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Green Bay Packers on Super Bowl Sunday, February 6. The final score of the game was 31-25 with the Packers coming out on top. The Most Valuable Player of the game, Aaron Rodgers, threw three touchdown passes to lead his team to a triumphant win to bring the Vince Lombardi Trophy back home to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Although I wanted the Steelers to win, there was a feel-good atmosphere at the stadium, bringing the trophy home to title town. The 103,219 fans that jam-packed the stadium seemed to always cheer for the Packers. Ben Roethlisberger did not look like himself that game like he did in his past Super Bowl form, as he threw two interceptions. I just hope next year the Atlanta Falcons come back on top as the NFC champions, and possibly Super Bowl Champions.

  3. I choose my article because it was very interesting, and it was important for not just Haiti but most countries. My article, "Haiti revamps runoff ballot," is a very vital article for Haiti citizens and the rest of the world. My article is about the recent elections in Haiti. The election was against Mirlande Manigat and Michelle Martelly. Their was one other candidate, Jude Celestin, but he was eliminated a week before the final elections. In late December the electoral council had announced that Manigat had one, but lacked the amount of votes for an upright victory. Martelly, had claimed he won and tensions arose not just within Haiti but other countries started pressuring Haiti into electing the right president. The electoral council has announce for a re-vote on March 20th and a final decision on April 16. The U.S ambassador to Haiti, Kenneth Martin, said "Thursday was a good day for Haiti..now lets hope March 20th is one also." I feel it is very important to elect a strong president for Haiti, espically with the nation's cholera outbreak surge that sickend 216,000 people and killed 4,131 people. Also, Haiti was struck with a massive earthquake last year and is still recovering from that. With the Cholera sickness and the earthquake it is a neccasity that Haiti elects a strong president.

  4. I chose this article because I had no idea, before it, that people were living underground in China in really poor conditions because China’s of the pricey property market. This article explains why 20 million people live underground in Beijing’s bomb shelter. It summarizes why and how they do it. People who are too poor to afford a house live underground, because it is better than living on the streets. They are known as “bomb shelter hoteliers” and they’re grateful that the government would give them a space to live, when it seems like there will never be an affordable home for them In Beijing. This article is interesting, because it explains how ordinary people living in China can not afford a home, because the market is so expensive and the government is not doing much to stop it except putting more affordable homes for sale.

  5. My article, "Biden announces $53 billion high-speed rail plan", is about the Obama administration's proposal of spending fifty-three BILLION dollars in the next six years to construct a national high-speed, intercity passenger train network. This article sparked my interest like love at first sight...well, more on the contrary. I can not believe that in the midst of our economic crisis when unemployed people are out on the streets and our national debt is more than fourteen TRILLION dollars, anybody could be thinking about spending another fifty-three billion dollars on a more-than-useless transportation system. Who, when the whole country is in desperate need of money, would in their right mind spend money to ride that train? Vice President Joe Biden's proposal of a national railway system is the most irrelevant, most money-wasting suggestion I have ever heard. Does he think that we are, as of right now, so prosperous and so rich that we can spare that much money on another yet downright abortive project? Just because he has had a history with trains does not mean his bias should affect the nation's well-being. Let us first address our current problems, and then we can construct new problems.

  6. I chose this article because the thought of Iran having missiles interested me.
This article is about Iran test-firing a supersonic ballistic surface-to-sea missile. This test launch came a day after Iran introduced new satellites. Some believe that Iran is buying missiles off the black market and modifying them to look Iranian. We still have not verified if the missile shown in the video is what they really have.
I don’t think that Iran built this missile themselves. I think that they bought it off the black market and changed a few things. I also do not think that this missile is as capable as it says in the article.

  7. I chose the article Astronomers open up a six-pack — of planets because it literally is of “world” importance. This article talks about a star called Kelper-11, and how six new planets were discovered circling around it. Also it was recorded in the New York Times by Dennis Overbye that another 1,200 planets were found orbiting other stars. As the planets orbit they are so close that Ray Villard says “If they were any closer the system would be dynamically unstable and fly apart”. Also the orbital periods range from 10 to 114 days. They also said that each of the six planets densities weighed as much as a marshmallow. I believe that the 1,206 new planets discovered last week also brings new things that we can research about the planets, and new information we can use. This information can help us in so many ways. New discoveries, out of our solar system are waiting to be found now it’s our job to find them.

  8. I chose this article because it is interesting and I think railroads are fun to ride on. I also chose this article because it affects me and my life. This article talks about how President Obama and Vice President Biden want to spend fifty-three billion dollars to build a high speed railway system across the United States. In twenty-five years they hope to have railroads that connect 80% of citizens in the U.S. They want to build the railway to help connect cities and towns, help jobs send their products, and to make less traffic. The railway might not be accepted by Congress because the House of Representatives is controlled by the Republicans who want the government to spend less money. I think building the railway is a good idea because railways would make less pollution than cars. Also you can travel faster when you need to get somewhere. I also like the idea because I like to travel and a high speed railroad would be an easy way to visit the cities I want to go to.

  9. I chose this article because I am interested in having a healthy and well balanced life style. The article is about a study conducted by the “European Heart Journal” about the risks involved with not getting enough sleep. The study included “475,000 adults from eight countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and Israel for seven to 25 years.” The study concluded that sleeping less than six hours a night will lead to, an increase in the risk of heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. The study also said sleeping more than nine hours can lead to “the early stages of chronic conditions like depression." I agree with this article because when I sleep ten hours I feel great and am more able to focuses on school and my performance in sports. When I sleep less than six hours I am a train wreck. Oh the other hand ever person is deferent and I think that the study needed more people.

  10. I chose my article because it is an international threat. Last year, North Korea shelled a South Korean island. This attack came months after the sinking of a South Korean warship that killed forty-eight sailors. Recently the two Koreas participated in peace talks. But recently North Korea has walked out on the pace talks, ending them without any accomplishments. I think this is a huge problem. These failed talks leave the Koreas on the verge of war. If they go to war, we face the possibility of getting involved to insure the sovereignty of South Korea. In my opinion that’s a huge problem.

  11. 1. I chose this article because I care about wildlife and I hate to see animals get hurt. I would do anything to stop oil spills so our sea life could stay alive and non injured.
    2. The article, “Nearly killed I oil spill, dolphin now thriving,” is about a male dolphin that got washed ashore at Louisiana’s Gulf Coast. He was found with other dolphins as well but those didn’t live. He was the only dolphin they found alive. Oil covered the dolphins body but there wasn’t much oil inside his blowhole or in his mouth, so that was a good sign. He was taken to the Dolphin Research Center in Florida where dolphins had been taken care of for many years. He was named “Louie” after the Louisiana Gulf Coast where he was rescued. The researchers think its going to take over 5 months for Louie to recover from his injures and to get back out there swimming with the other dolphins.
    3. I think this article has a lot of information because it is telling is what is happening out in the oceans and whats happening with sea life. It's also talking about oil spills which shouldn't be happening because it ruins the ocean and what lives in it. This article it very useful and should show what oil spills do to animals out in the sea.

  12. I chose this article because I had to choose an article and I was interested in the Super Bowl. This article talks about the two teams that faced each other in Super Bowl 45 and the score, which was 31-25, Packers. It continued with how many championships both teams have in total. This article says that the Packers beat the top three seeds and the Steelers beat two good teams and had a better record. The Super Bowl was played in the largest domed stadium at Cowboys Stadium. It further said who sang during halftime and the National Anthem. I think the article covered most of the Super Bowl. However, it didn't talk about what happened during the game. It would have helped to know what happened during the game; not just before and after.

  13. I chose this article because the title, “Processed Food Linked to Lower Kids’ IQ,” definitely relates to one of America’s biggest problems today, obesity. This article was suggesting that if feeding processed foods at the age of three or lower, this may decrease the child’s IQ by the age of eight. Although there is no sound proof that this is what will happen, scientists and nutritionists recommend not to feed processed food to young children. Not only will processed foods lower your child's IQ, but it may also cause health problems in the future. Research finds that eating processed foods in the first three years of life will lower intelligence, but not from ages 4 to 7. To prevent this from happening, a doctor recommended feeding your child a healthy diet, reading to him or her, and having a family routine. In my opinion, this article shines a light on the behind the scenes obesity problem. Obviously, if a kid starts a habit of eating processed foods before the age of three, that child will have a higher risk of becoming obese. There are so many foods out there that are processed, that it is kind of hard to find all natural food! Aside from fruits and vegetables, can you think of ten foods that are not in some way processed? If the answer is no, then America has a serious problem on its hands.

  14. I chose my article because the tidal caught my eye. When I read “Achoo! Cold and flu season is worse this year, poll finds” I found out 2011 has been a bad year for flues and colds. In the Eastern U.S. this year alone colds have jumped nearly 3.1 percent since November. Also 25 percent has been caused by H1N1, which generated in an epidemic last year. This led to one third of the U.S. getting vaccinated. In my opinion the H1N1 was a virus the government put out because the economy is/was crashing. The H1N1 was put out to ensure pharmacy prosperity. This led to government help. The point of this is to spread the word about the colds and flues, but it could also be a message to get vaccinated

  15. I chose this article, “City is Looking at Sewage Treatment as a Source of Energy”, because I think it’s great that people are trying to find a way to get rid of sewage while using it for gasoline. Countries want to use it for the costs of sewage treatment and to get rid of greenhouse gases. People are trying to find a way to get rid of the sewage and developing a way to recycle sewage. They want to use the fuel to power homes, make fertilizer, or paving and building materials. The most important source of energy is the methane gas from sewage treatment plants’ digesters. So, half of the methane produced pays of 20% of the energy demands out of 14 sewage plants that has electric bills about $50 million a year. The city wants to sell the other half that is burned off and wasted. I think this is a great idea and should be continued because it is recycle sewer junk. It could heat up homes and help our environment. This project has led to other ideas of solar and wind projects. This could help save and keep our planet healthy.

  16. I chose this Article because I heard about these snow storms on the news, and I was interested in learning more about it. The article I chose is called "Snowstorm sweeps across U.S. Southeast". It basically goes into detail about the hazardous driving conditions, and freezing temperatures and inches of snow still to come to half the U.S. The article also explains how kids are getting to miss many weeks of school in the states that are getting twelve inches of snow. Another very important part was the deaths or dangers of the ice and snow, many have been due to carbon monoxide poisoning, falls, and injuries in car accidents. Other effects from the huge snowstorm is the long layovers in airports, and other transportation systems. States like Oklahoma and Texas are having to call for state of emergencies from the two feet of snow that had been dumped on them. I think that this snowstorm is very unexpected and has taking people by surprise. It is really effecting transportation and the way people are getting around. I also think it is very stressful for the people who are leaving in these states, the snowstorm is on of the worst in history currently.

  17. I chose this article because it looked pretty interesting and I always like learning more about the budget and tax cuts. The article, "Wash. House approves $300M business tax break," talks about the recent voting for a tax break bill. The bill would also include a temporary increase in pay for unemployed people. This is because the unemployment fund is at $2 billion, which is better than most states right now. The bill is now being voted on by the Senate, and many people are hoping it will be approved. I was very surprised when I read this article. With all of the budget and job cuts right now, I would think they would be making taxes higher, but instead they might be giving them a break. I agree with the article because it gives some people a little break, especially now, when they need it the most.

  18. The Article I choose was about how a 13 year old girl sprayed perfume in class and she got a $150 dollar ticket and has to go to court. This article caught my eye because I put perfume on sometimes in class. This 13 year old girl goes to school in Texas. During the 1990s a school district in Texas decided they needed stricter enforcement of rules, so they implemented a ticketing system that sent students to court and charged those fines for inapprotiate behavior. Now staff and school cops are being way too hard on these kids. One of the school cops gave a 6 year old kid a ticket and he or she has to go to court. I think this is ridiculous I understand how she could get in trouble by putting perfume in class but going to court over it and getting a $150 dollar fine is over kill.

  19. This article is about the Spanish government enforcing a law about smoking in restaurants. Restaurant owner, Jose Eugenio Arias, is refusing to pay a fine for $200,000 for allowing people to smoke in his restaurant. Since he refused to pay the fine, police are going to shut down the establishment. "This restaurant has been in non-compliance since the law began," said a spokesman for Spain's national health ministry. "From what we know, this is the first case in the country" of a restaurant closure order. I think that this is probably a good idea, because in my opinion, I wouldn’t want to walk inside a restaurant, try to eat food, and smell nothing but smoke in the air. I also think that Jose Eugenio Arias should pay the fine, because yes it is his restaurant, but he still broke the law. I think the reason that the Spanish government banned smoking in restraunts because it is a serious health issue. I strongly agree with this. Another reason why I think they made this law is because people bring children to restaurants, and the smell of second- hand smoke can get into their lungs, and that is very bad for them.

  20. The reason that I picked this article is because it is shocking to see what the people in foreign countries would do to our men and women just because they assume that they are spies. I think that the people who killed our men should be locked up or put on death roll.
In this article it talks about how 4 men from the United States were captured and killed. In Islamabad, Pakistan militants in the north were shot and killed because they were accused of spying for the United States. When Pakistan police found the bodies of the four men their was a note attached to them that read, “this is the fate for whoever works for the U.S.” Islamabad police have seen a serious uprising in the amount of killings in the past few months. Many people who live in and around this area say that targets are often chosen based on information that is passed to them from residents. In the past two years dozens of men in the tribal region have killed men just because they assume that they are spies for the united states.
In my opinion, I believe that what happened was uncalled for. The reason that these men were shot and killed is absolutely unnecessary. People shouldn’t be killed because of what people believe that they are doing. If I were the family of one of these men I would want to get something in reward because no matter what they can never be replaced. These are my opinions on what I chose to be my article.

  21. I chose this article about super bowl forty five because I am a big sports fan and it interested me the most.In this article it summarizes the super bowl game between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. This super bowl was one of the most intense athmospheres I have ever seen with fans cheering the familiar chants of here we go steelers on one side and go pack go on the other side. The Packers shot out of the gates with an three early touchdowns taking a commanding 21-3 lead at one point. But the Steelers would not give up scoring two touchdowns in the second half putting all the pressure on the Packers. The Steelers then got the ball back after holding the Packers on defense only to have a Rashard Mendenhall fumble giving the Packers back the ball and the momentum. The Packers then drove down the field to kick a field goal, but the game was far from over, The Steelers still had two minutes left but could not convert on a crucial fourth down play giving the Lombardi Trophy to the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers was named most valuable player having three hundred and four passing yards with three touchdown passes. I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and was dissapointed seeing them lose. But I respect the fact that the Packers just played a better game on that day. The Packers were very well deserving of the Lombardi trophy.

  22. I chose an article about smoking labels, and how they will be improved to show the dangers of smoking. In this article, the F.D.A (Food and Drug Administration) has made the labels on cigarettes show pictures of the risks and dangers that they can cause. For example, they will have picture of people with bad cases of cancer, people breathing through a hole in their neck, and people with gum disease. 440,000 people die every year from smoking, so they found it important to make sure whenever a smoker buys a pack of cigarettes they are reminded of the dangers it can cause. This new labeling will be in affect in 2012 in all of the United States. I found this interesting because I know that smoking is a huge problem in our country, so I find it fascinating how they are trying to fix it. In my opinion, I think this won't stop the problem of smoking, but it is another step closer to saving more lives each year. I know that the stop of nicotine is not an answer right now, but I believe in the future it could be an option. Pushing cigarette labels to be more direct on the problems it can cause I think is a great approach to get people to stop smoking.

  23. I chose my article on, "The Assasination attempt of Gabrielle Giffords." The event happened in Arizona, held as a meeting outside of a local grocery store. Six people were killed along with more then 17 people shot by the gunman. Jared Lee Loughner, the gunman, is in custody for his actions toward the assasination. He even shot a little girl, and old lady just to assasinate Gabrielle Giffords, which was a failed attempt sorry to say, not for the 6 people who died.

Why do things like this? They will get you no where in life, unless you like being behind bars for the rest of your life. There is no reason for this! I chose this event because when I heard about it, it interested me and also made me sad about the loved ones of many people who were injured. Luckily, Gabrielle Giffords is alive, but may also have serious conditions that may stay with her for the rest of her life.

  24. I chose an article on the possible future leadership in Egypt. My article talks of how the President of Egypt has said he will not step down from the elections. Mohammed Elbaradei, a noble peace prize winner and former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, stated "Egypt will explode. Army must save country now,". The people have believed that the military are on their side and they are demanding that they make President Mubarak step down. Some of the protesters want foreign help to stabilize the situation while a democratic goverment is created. In my opnion if things continue without intervention I see a possible revoulution. This could go in any direction from democracy to communism and extreme radicalism. Its happened before Cuba, Russia, China and Vietnam which is the bad alternative and America, Britain, and France as a posisitive alternative. If there is a intervention I see an almost definite democractic outcome. Revoulution is a possibility all over the Middle East as the youth begin to have unrest. Again the outcome of that could be a democratic nation or a radical nation which would be very bad because a radical nation is not a very nice one to the United States generally. This Egypt incident not only effects the nations future but possibly the entire world as the revoulution spreads.

  25. I chose this article because it has to do with basketball and it is dealing with one of the best coaches in the league. The article explains how Jerry Sloan had retired today. Before announcing his retirement, the Jazz (his team) tried to talk him out of it. Besides this, the article explains Jerry Sloan’s stats and how he spent 23 seasons with the Jazz. For example, the article states how Jerry Sloan had 1,221 wins in his career, which is third all time. I think that this kind of came out of nowhere. I didn’t think that if he were to retire he would retire in the middle of the season. In addition, I think that he should have kept coaching for a little longer because his team still is a playoff team and his system still works.

  26. I decided to do my blog on the frat house shooting in Youngstown, Ohio, because I find it very sad when articles that include shootings appear on the news. The aticle states that several days ago, there was a shooting at a fraternity house. Two men were in a fight between two different houses and one man tried to settle the dispute. The two men left and came back with guns, shooting bullets into the crowd. Eleven people were injured by the men, and one person was killed. Recently, the two men were arrested for aggressive murder. I find it rediculous that just because they were in an argument, the two men would kill someone and injure several others. However, the question of how they were able to recieve that firepower at a younger age rings in my mind. I feel extremely sorry for the family of the man who was killed, wondering why it had to be him who died. I really think that these men deserve to go to prison for they're unacceptable and irreverseable actions.

  27. The article I have read and chosen to write on the subject of,is that the House of Representatives tried to pass a bill a few weeks ago that would tighten control on offshore rigs and companies, in regard to the BP oil spill. I chose this article because it caught my eye, and I am very concerned about the disaster that happened only last year, and that the government was trying to do something about it. The article tells the reader how the explosion of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico killed eleven workers, releasing millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf. A few weeks ago, several House Democrats introduced a bill that would require stricter federal control and oversight on oil companies, owners and operators of offshore oil rigs along the U.S. coastline. The bill was suggested to ‘deter future safety lapses’, and would offer protection to employees who reported safety violations. The legislation would also set aside eighty percent of the fines against BP to be used for both economic and environmental restoration work in the Gulf, since the oil spill is still hurting the fishing and tourism industries in states around the explosion and distribution site. Even though this bill wasn’t taken up by the Senate, therefore becoming null and void, I believe that it was still a good idea. By limiting and taking additional control over the oil spill-creating-company, we could put a stop to the oceanic pollution. Because of the original oil spill, hundreds upon thousands of different kinds of marine life was destroyed, and more every day, simply from an explosion on an oil rig that the owners failed to correct in time. Perhaps another bill will be proposed, one that can help with the slow deterioration of ocean ecosystems, and correct the wrong done by the oil spill.

  28. 1) I chose this article because the title seemed interesting.
    2) An Italian oil tanker was out at sea heading to Malaysia from Sudan when a pirate ship attacked them. Five people attacked them with small arms and rocket propelled grenades. This happened 670 miles out of Yemen’s Socotra Island. There has not been any connections with the ship since then and there has been no sign of the 22-man crew.
    3) In my opinion I think that the Italian government should try to investigate the scene and try to get back their lost oil tanker. I think that the “pirates” aren’t really considered pirates because they didn’t even take the ship with a pirate ship. These people who took the oil tanker were only in a group of five people, which doesn’t seem like a pirate crew if only five people robbed a huge ship like an oil tanker.

  29. I chose my article, “Wael Ghonim, Freed Google Manager, 'Ready To Die' For Egypt” because it was very interesting. The article talks about Wael Ghonim an “Egyptian hero” to protesters. He and his followers tried to negotiate with the government but the government did not wish to cooperate. He said, “We went on the streets on the 25th, and we wanted to negotiate. We wanted to talk to our government.... They decided to negotiate with us at night, with rubber bullets, with police sticks, with water hoses, with tear gas.” This is obviously showing that the government took harsh violent action on the protesters. I think that Wael Ghonim has a lot of confidence that he can make a difference in the Egyptian society. He can inspire someone to help with the disorganization in Egypt. The petitioners were apparently trying to negotiate with the government and it responded with violent actions.

It started at $360 in the stock’s average and began to drop by $355 to $349 in minutes. And in all dropped by 1 billion dollars. Dollars were being skipped in selling’s. I think it sucks to lose a billion dollars. I hope that they do better. There stock sucks. But I know it will rise.

  31. I chose this article because I've always wondered about my ancestors and family tree, but I've never really looked that far into it. It’s amazing to see how far back all of it could go, and the chance that somebody you know might be related to you in some way. This video explains how two men in Germany took a blood test and found out they were distant cousins. They only share one ancestor who lived over 3,000 years ago! What’s amazing is through all of that, they both lived in the same village, a half mile apart. Another topic was about Briton Roy Blackmore who set the record for the largest family tree. He has over 10,000 ancestors on his tree, including William the Conqueror and Alfred the Great. This was a very interesting video because, how many people really take the time to find out about their family tree? Its crazy to think your best friend, or wife, or teacher could possibly be related to you in some shape or form. I think this is an incredible topic because it’s about family history, and you never know how large your family tree is and who might be in it.

  32. I chose my topic because it was very interesting to me. I chose the iphone 4 because it is like the world at our fingertips. We can search the web as well as read a book or write a book report. It has great retina display technology called IPS(inplane switching) which is in the ipad too. It has such brillant picture that you can hold the phone in almost any position and still get the greatest picture! How is it that when you touch the screen your finger is like the mouse? Well there is a panel laminated on the glass that senses your touch to the screen! I think that this phone was a great invetion because it is great for busy workers as well as very responsible children. And even if you have never delt with a phone like this you could get the hang of it like that. I chose this topic because I find it very interseting!

  33. 1. One of my favorite subjects to study is history, and it has been so sense I was little. I wanted to find an article having to do something with the past. Immediately I thought back to the story I had watched on the news about artifacts on display, being ruined during Egyptian protests.
    2. This article discusses the importance of ancient Egyptian history. During the protests and riots in Egypt, looters vandalized priceless artifacts displayed in the Egyptian Museum. Eleven members have set to work and are hoping that all restoration will be done in three days. Despite the hopeful quick fix, the museum will be unable to open, in fear that more of its treasures could possibly be damaged.
    3. Along with others around the world I am unhappy with the damage caused. Because of the looters, those statues mummies and other objects will never be the same. People travel from all over the world to Egypt simply to have a look at its past.

  34. I read an article that was about the crisis in Egypt and President Honsi Mubarak’s speech. In his speech Mubarak said he would not step down and stay in office until the September elections. This article also talks about the reaction of the Egyptian people and how they are angry that Mubarak did not step down. Another point in this article is if the army will stay with Mubarak or force him out of office.
My opinion is that Mubarak should step down from office. Egypt is in chaos and will only be able to obtain stability if he steps down. It’s already obvious that the whole country is against him. He has been in office for 30 years and I believe its time for Egypt to have a new president.

  35. I chose the article about Mubarak's speech and how he refuses to step down. I chose this article because I'm interested in events happening all over the world. In this article, it talks about how Honsi Mubarak refuses to leave his spot as president and will "delegate powers" to the Vice President, a man named Omar Sulejman. The speech he gave in Tahrir Square, which made angry people want him to leave. People have been protesting with no rest over night, awake even in the middle of the night. He was being called a coward, illegitimate, and that he must stand down. Many people have lost their lives during the protest during fights with the police and government forces. In my opinion, I think that Mubarak should just step down. He has already showed that he has week, and the people no longer want him to lead. He is just disappointing everyone, and causing more damage.

  36. I chose the article "The new NBA record: 2,562 times 3 for Ray Allen." I choose this because I like basketball, its a big accomplishment, and it was a headline that caught my eye. This article is about the Celtics Ray Allen beating the all time leader Reggie Miller who played for the Indiana Pacers. Ray Allen had shot 6,430 3 point field goals for 39.8% and Miller shot 6,486 3 pointers for 39.5%. Allen entered the season with needing 117 3 pointers to pass Reggie's record. He made this shot with 1:38 left in the 1st period by a pass from Rajon Rondo. He had tried 4 times before without making this shot. After he made the shot TD Gardens (Celtics Stadium) erupted with applause and cheering. Reggie Miller was at the game and went and gave him a hug. The opposing Lakers Kobe Bryant congratulate Allen as well. This is a big accoplishment for Ray Allen and the NBA. "All records are made to be broken" said Reggie Miller after the game.

  37. I chose "Have a Diet Coke...and a stoke," because it applies to most americans in the United States. You would expect switching from Regular Coke to Diet would benefit you but their saying it could increase the risk of stroke?
This article is about weather or not Diet Coke increases the risk of heart attacks or strokes. Researchers from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine provided a study showing that people who drink diet soda every day had a 61% greater risk of stroke. They have yet to find what may be the cause of the assumed issue. This topic is very controversial because drinking Diet Coke can also link to unhealthy eating habits, which also leads to strokes and heart attacks. This argument is also hypocritical, Diet Coke just recently launched a Heart Truth campaign — which motivates women to “take action against risk factors” for heart disease.
I think Diet Coke has a part in increased risk for heart disease and stroke, but isn't the one to blame. First, Scientists and Dietitians have yet to find the reasonable explanation behind this philosophy. Secondly, in the past Diet Soda has shown that the more you drink the more weight you gain. If you're overweight, you have a greater risk of having a stroke. This may be one of the reasons researchers say if you drink too much Diet Coke you have a 61% greater risk of stroke. So in conclusion, if you choose water over Diet Coke rather than Diet Coke over water, your better off.

  38. I chose my article because it seemed the most interesting to me. A major storm has been spreading across the Midwest. The storm has brought over a foot of snow and extremely high winds to Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Indiana, New Mexico, and more. Leaders and families have been taking many precautions to stay safe from the storm and the harm it could possibly do. Residents of possibly affected areas have been trying to be as prepared as possible to what this storm might bring. I think people should stay prepared but calm. They should continue doing what they are doing to stay safe from the storm. Overall, they are handling it well and should continue to listen to leaders for how to stay safe.

  39. I choose this article because it’s about moving the racetrack in Ohio to a different part of the state. In my article “Proposed Track for Dayton,” they are hoping to move the race track to Dayton even though this may cost $200 million that will go into the making of the track. If by moving this track to Dayton then it will create about one thousand five hundred jobs for American citizens. This will boost the community and the economy and provide approximately a thousand jobs for the locals. The decision to the new racetrack will be made sometime this week. A proposal is currently being under way by the Ohio Racing Commission. In this article I think that this will for sure help the economy and the Ohio community because this might be just what we need to help out all the jobs lost. Even though I know that this will not help everything but at least this will help out with all the problems that we are having in our life today. I think that this will go underway and even though it’s a lot of money it will go into good use.

  40. I chose this article because it was the most interesting and recent article in the news. In this article Hosni Mubarak, the president of Egypt, promised his people on Thursday that he would give his power to the Vice President Omar Suleiman. However, when he did not resign they were enraged and threatened that their peaceful protests would soon get dangerous. When the people had initially heard about the promise, they were ecstatic because they had been protesting for weeks to have a new leader. But when they realized he did not resign, they were disgusted and furious. I believe that Mubarak should resign immediately before anyone is hurt. I also think that he should honor his word, because he did promise to pass on his power. I believe that if he does not honor his word and resign soon, he will be even more disliked and many will call for action.

  41. I chose the article about thin mints because I really like Girl Scout Cookies and it just caught my eye. In this article it talks about how people don’t want the Girl Scout Troops to sell cookies anymore because they are unhealthy and are giving kids diabetes. But others say that the Girl Scout Troops are, “an organization devoted to helping raise healthy, empowered girls who make smart choices…” The Girl Scout Troop leader says that if we stop making the cookies, it won’t end being unhealthy. But for the mom is New Jersey, she still thinks the cookies are bad and should be stopped. I think the cookies taste so good and the money goes to a good cause for the Girl Scouts, so I don’t think they are bad for us. You can manage how many cookies you eat and that they aren’t being sold all year long so you have a big time frame between them. Many people could disagree, maybe because they don’t like the cookies or they think they are too much money, but really they aren’t hurting anybody and are just a good fund-raising for the Girl Scouts.

  42. I chose the article, Marriage or Else. I chose this because it caught my attention last week when we were reading about the Price of Safety. The article talks about how in Afghanistan girls as little as eight years old are being forced into marriage. If they refuse the punishment could be death. Some young girls tried to escape from their husbands by dressing up as boys and leaving on a bus. Some girls are even kidnapped and held for ransom unless they marry their capturers. "Early marriage and forced marriage are the two most common forms of violent behavior against women and girls” – Fawzia Kofi a member of the Afghan Parliament. I believe that what they are doing in Afghanistan is absolutely horrible! It’s unthinkable and cruel. A girl who unsuccessfully fled her husband and father-in-law was punished brutally and had her nose and both of her ears cut-off. I think that it’s just awful that innocent young girls are being beaten, cut, and even killed by their husbands and families. It needs to stop.

  43. I chose the article A Race between Digital and Print Magazine because it discusses downloading magazines on an ipad versus buying the paper version. Ipads are becoming even more popular now since when they first came out, but it seems debatably for it how good they first seemed to work. In the article, the writer experiments by downloading a magazine on his ipad, then driving in his car to a local magazine stand to buy a paper copy. When he gets home, the ipad is still downloading the magazine, which proves technology isn’t always faster. Some people agree and say that the ipad isn’t much of a technology improvement in that range of importance. Other people say that it only takes longer because makers really want to get every single thing from the page of the magazine to your digital magazine. I think that ipads are an improvement in technology. First of all, you can put on and load new information and news faster online than printing it out. Also, on ipads, videos can be added to magazines making them even better quality. In conclusion, the article discusses the work of ipad magazine downloads, which I think progresses technology.

  44. The article, “ Targeting Tabaco”, by Gardiner Harris in Washington D.C., is basically about how Tabaco companies should put disturbing information or pictures that are caused by too much smoking, so it can prevent teens, and even adults, to not smoke. The packs sold present day only have little warnings, that if I were the one reading them, it wouldn’t really stop me from smoking a cigarette because its not that impacting. Right now, the federal government is proposing that all Tabaco products should have a very disturbing image that would be intended to stop the user from smoking, so that it can become a law. This issue is a serious problem at the moment, especially for the people that are experimenting this dangerous product, so something needs to be done quickly. My opinion over this situation is probably what most people who don’t smoke, or don’t intend to, would think also. Basically, I fully agree with this whole article. Smoking, present day especially, is a huge problem. I know at least 10 teens, which are close to me, that are using or have used Tabaco. I personally think its gross because honestly, there is no point in smoking cigarettes, unless you want to get cancer or have this disgusting hole in your neck. All smoking does to you is hurt your body and cause you to have really bad teeth and breath, which isn’t very attractive. I think that if this idea were made into a law, people would think about smoking Tabaco before actually doing it after looking at those images and information located on the cigarette pack. When I hear or see some one that I know smoking or wanting to smoke, usually I warn them that if they do end up liking Tabaco and getting hooked on it, there are some terrible side effects or consequences that can’t be reversed. I think the problem with teens is that the moment they want to try a cigarette or are offered it, they think the odds of them getting cancer or some kind of medical problem is very low, but what they don’t know is that it isn’t, what so ever, if you get hooked.

  45. I chose "Smuggle Truck" the new iPad/iPhone game app. Their has been lot of controversy about the upcoming release of it. The point of the game is to cross the U.S. border without dropping your illegal immigrant cargo that rides in the back of the truck. The more illegal immigrants you smuggle, the higher you score. The contaversay is because it makes Mexican immigrants look bad. Some of the first racing games were illegal street racing. Their are hundreds of games with illegal activities in them. I have read some comments on blogs and news channels, and there are border patrol agents that say they just don't care. The game is not going do stop or encourage or cause anything else according to the border patrol agents. For that I don't think the game needs to be taking of market. As an example Grand Theft Auto is one the bad game and is saposibly its turning teenagers in to drug addicts drug addcits and crimanals, but have a survey on people whohave played the game. The people who took the survey answered its just a game its not real. My conclusion to all of this is that if your family has taught you right from wrong you will know that a video game is not reality and the things illigal activities in a video game have legal actions taken in real life. The video game Smuggle Truck does not glorify illegal immigration. However, it does tell the world that coming across the U.S. border illegally with a big risk is way easier than crossing legally. If a immigrant wants to come to the United States illigally they will break a number of laws. Three main laws I see being broken are 1) crossing the U.S. border illegally, 2) creating fake identification. 3) Stealing a social security number to work and get money. The reality is that the game is mirrors some of the real issues that the U.S. has been trying to gain control of.

  46. The reason why I choose this article is because I thought its title looked interesting. The article is about soldier named Salvatore Guinta who had served in the army. It tolled how he was a living recipient of the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War. How he saved his squad from a Taliban ambush and saved one of his men being dragged away by them. How he also received a medal from President Obama and that he was at the Super Bowl waving at the crowd. I though that it was very interesting how saved his squad from an ambush and also serving for quite a long time. I think if the army keeps getting soldiers like him, then we could end the war much sooner. I also honor for the men and women who serve our country to keep it from harm.

  47. I chose this article because animal testing really interests me and is a big concern of mine. Also because lot of people don’t realize how much this affects us. In this article, I read about how there are many flaws in the way people are using animals to test medicines and other various products. It’s one of the leading causes in deaths, right up there with cancers, heart disease and strokes. Due to results of research, scientists are beginning to question the safety of animal testing and refer to it as a coin toss; either it works or not. They’re realizing that many medicines will work on the animal, but cause worse outcomes for the human. I would say that this was a pretty long article, but it was worth reading and very interesting. I learned a lot more about the outcomes of animal testing and on how it’s not completely safe for humans to test it either. I would recommend this article for any reports on this topic.

  48. My article is on the current crisis in Egypt. I chose this article because I believe is the major current event in the world right now. The citizens of Egypt are displeased with the ruling of the current president, Hosni Mubarak. The citizens have begun protesting in hope that he will step down from the president’s chair or there will be a drastic governmental change. The protests have soon become bloody and out of control. Also Mubarak has recently announced that he is not resigning but turning power over to vice president Omar Suleiman. I believe that Mubarak should resign entirely and possibly even flee the country. He is a disgrace to the Egyptian government and to the world. I believe this is the only way to restore peace in the streets of Egypt.

  49. “A Comeback for Nuclear Power?” by Matthew L. Wald brings back the idea of using nuclear power for our nation’s needs. While President Obama and others begin plans and funding for these reactors, some 30 countries are ahead of the game containing several nuclear plants established already. Though, in the past, using nuclear energy seemed alien-like to some, today, the idea seems more logical than not with our growing imprint on our planet. “But unlike conventional power plants, which burn coal, oil, or natural gas to make the steam—and emit greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming—nuclear energy produces no carbon emissions.” Even though these plants promise no carbon emissions, atomic waste is still a pending problem to deal with, trying to discover the best way to store it to decompose for a few thousand years. Despite the fact that time, money, and our planet's health is at risk, we continue to try to be less of a disease to the world, possibly, with nuclear power plants.

Global Warming has always been interesting for me and I’ve wondered how our country could possibly help reverse it, which is why I chose this article. I feel that if using nuclear power could decrease our carbon footprint on Earth, then it should be given a try. Though, my opinion also hesitates because there have been problems with already existing nuclear power plants in our country and very notable accidents in other countries like the deadly explosion in 1986 in what is now Ukraine due to nuclear power uses. In the future, I hope our country and others can learn from these mistakes and better ourselves for the planet.

  50. I chose the article, “Crisis in Cairo: The Latest from Egypt in Turmoil” because I have seen it on the news lately, and it makes me want to know the solution that will happen there. The United States is in a tight spot because they believe that the protesters have the right of freedom and assembly, but if they side with the protesters Egypt will not support the United States anymore. This protest is turning more and more violent, and all of it is televised worldwide. At first, the police would not harm the protesters, but there are reports that an officer opened fire against the crowd after his car was being attacked. The Egyptian government has blacked social media sites and SMS communications; the protesters are now forced to use a leaflet that is being photocopied and redistributed, guiding them on how to do a street demonstration. The Egyptian government thought when sending the army to the street protests would scare them, but the protesters are actually happy that they are arriving feeling they could protect them. I feel that the cause of this crisis is both the protesters and the government’s fault. If the government wouldn’t have treated them so badly there would be no protest, but the protesters are getting more and more rowdy creating damage that is not necessary. The crackdown on Egyptians communication is bad, but torching police vehicles is worse. Bringing the army in is a big step, I am waiting anxiously to know whose the side they will help.

  51. I choose this article because it interested me and it is a big advancement in medicine. Marcela Padilla, a 21-year-old woman, was the fifth person and first women to get a portable machine that will power her artificial heart. The machine will help her while she waits for her transplant. She had biventricular failure, which is the failure of both sides of your heart. The machine allows her to return home while she awaits a new heart. Without it, she would have to wait in the hospital for her heart transplant. I think that this machine will be very helpful. It gives people the chance to live a normal life while they have an artificial heart. This can make a great advancement in medicine, especially for our future generations.

  52. The article I have is about the new “unmanned” (later manned in 2016) spacecraft. Lockheed Martin (Known for making the F-16, XF22, and X35) is making a new space plane which can go further in the depths of space and Orbit Operations. They are calling it the Orion. Which NASA is going to buy for about 1,607,500,000.5 Dollars! This article has been epic because NASA and Lockheed Martin have been doing work for 66 years such as new planes and new technology. My Opinion is that NASA and Lockheed Martin Should continue their work because without them, we wouldn’t all have those cool gadgets that they made. My 1st opinion is that they should continue their work buying space programs to continue their science. My Second opinion is that the United States continues to explore our planets and new galaxies. But I also think the amount is excessive and we could use our money to buy schools and pay less on jailhouses.
