Your Adventure

Describe a time in your life when you went on an adventure or made a discovery of some sort.  How did this experience impact your life?  What did you learn?

  1. I have went on many adventures in my life. Yet, my most memorable adventure was the time that my mom sent me off to the store to get her window cleaner. I was in third grade and was very nervous and had never traveled to the other side of town by myself. I had to do it, those dirty windows were counting on me. I hopped on my bike and rode to the store. I then returned in twenty minutes. I was so frightened to go by myself but overall it made me understand how important it is to be safe and don't talk to strangers. I look back and am actually really glad i made that journey. It taught me many things and at a good time.

  2. It was a bright, sunny day and my friend and I wanted to go exploring. It was during the summer in International Falls, Minnesota. We went out on the lake in our boat and discovered something. It was not very noticeable at first but when we got closer to the island, we realized we discovered a cave! This experience was very exciting. Making a new discovery or even going on a simple adventure makes you feel proud, accomplished, and happy with yourself. Throughout my experience of ascertaining this cave, I learned that finding something is a very self- fulfilling event that anyone should be proud of!

  3. In our hectic day-to-day lives, it is only natural that we humans forget to stop and look around us. From morning until night all we think about involves human-made things: cars, phones, homes, and jobs. It’s easy to forget about the natural world that surrounds us every moment of every day. When I was ten years old, I was reminded of how splendidly beautiful nature is. I was on a vacation to Big Sur, where I went hiking with my family along a pristine river. On the long walk upstream, we all began to feel rather uncomfortable in the hot weather and decided to take a swim. As I jumped in the cool, inviting liquid, I closed my eyes and listened to the gurgling river, realizing how stunning the natural world really is. I learned that happiness doesn’t come from upgrading your phone or rushing from place to place. The best feeling on Earth comes from slowing down and falling into harmony with the world. Since then, I have integrated a peaceful attitude into my life, and taught myself to live in the moment.

  4. In the summer of last year I went on a fishing trip near Mexico. On this trip were twenty or more people on the boat for the two and a half days we were on it. During this trip I caught one fish and my dad caught two. The deck was constantly covered with fish that were either dead or were thrashing trying to escape back into the water. This trip showed what some people have to do to feed their family. It is a fight fish against man and some people have to do that every day.

One time in my life that I went on an adventure is when I got to go on a trip to Paris, France in November 2009. It impacted my life because I got to see another part of the world other than America. I also got to learn about the city and how people are different there. I will never forget this trip because even though it was a short trip, I know I want to go back someday.

  6. When I was six years old I went on an adventure of a life time to the mountains. I was staying at my aunt and uncles cabin skiing, and sledding. I had just gotten back from sledding and was going inside when my sled started sliding down the mountain. Finally it stopped on a very steep part because of a stick. I slowly walked down the mountain until I reached the board and had it in my hand. I almost fell down the mountain and I will never forget that experience.

  7. If I wanted to go on an adventure, I would want to go to the Amazon river and go rafting. There would be a camping site were we could hang out and then go rafting in the mornings. After noons would be something like exploring the jungle. Maybe we'd run into some animals. I've always wondered what animals from the amazon are like. I've also wondered what the river would be like to go rafting down. I might be a little scared to go do that! This would be a trip of a lifetime!

  8. My adventure is when I broke my leg. It was an adventure because it was the first time I had gotten seriously injured and the first time I had been hit by a car. I was in shock because it happened so fast. I flew through the air and on to the hood of the car! There were good thing and bad things to it. Bad things: I had broken my tibia and fibula in the accident, I had to have four pins in my leg, I was uncomfortable, I could only have one parent in the room at a time during the night, and it was hard for me when I got out of the hospital. Good things: I found out how it feels to have something injured, I learned about new things that I was not aware of like a behind the scenes tour of the zoo every month for Kaiser kids (which led to the discovery of Zoo Corps), I became more carful after that, I became more aware of what some people have to go though, the thing that held the pins in my leg together was made of platinum so I had fun being called the million dollar boy, and it was an experience that I will never forget because it was interesting and kind of like its own little school (in a way). It was an experience and most important of all, it was an adventure. That is my adventure.

  9. Over the summer, my family makes many trips. One summer, over a week we had a road trip up the coast of California. We went to many different restaurants and towns, all very different than the other. The conditions compared to Coronado surprised me. It made me realize that Coronado is very sheltered and a good neighborhood. Now, I appreciate my home more every day.

  10. It was an incredibly foggy night when my friend and I had the brilliant idea to go Cop Dodging. It's when curfew is in effect and the main objective is to evade the local authorities. I remember that night with stark vividness, an intense clarity that penetrates only the most beloved and feared memories. It seems strange to me now that no matter how wholly complete my recollection of this particular event is, I cannot tell you the reason the event itself manifested, what the driving force was to make us do this still escapes me. I recall the grass moist from the low-hanging fog and how the air we breathed in seemed fresher that night, the peace that surrounded evoked a unique aura or feeling of nirvana that that would soon be frequently interrupted by the men in blue. This constant ricochet of peace switching to chaos created a beautiful uncertainty and while in such a state I failed to notice the nervousness which had come over my friend. He started talking about the ghost he had just seen and his attitude of paranoia increased to the point that I decided it we should return back for it had become evident the attributes this dark night held for him differed greatly from my own.

  11. Everyday in my life is a little adventure. One of the most memorable adventures I have had happened when I lived in Hawaii. We visited the Hawaiian Water Adventure Park and afterwards spent the night out in Waikiki. That day was full of fun and hula dancers. We did everything from going down water slides to choosing a clam with a very rare pearl inside. My mom told me to choose a clam and so I did. When the jeweler opened the clam he said I had a very lucky hand. I was young and did not understand what he was speaking of. Now I realize that I have never seen another pearl like the one I had chosen. After looking at some jewelry we went on and walked down a street full of designer stores. I had never seen these stores before and my mom and I were curious so we walked in. The one thing that made us walk out in a hurry was the prices. The clothes in the stores were extremely expensive. Since we didn’t have that kind of money on us we continued to walk around. We heard some Hawaiian music and got drawn in. I saw a group of hula dancers moving so gracefully. That day I learned that every move they make has to do with something relating nature such as mountains and water. This was an experience that I will never forget. I learned more about the island which I lived on and had fun at the same time. It was amazing and I would love to visit Hawaii again soon.

  12. One of my most memorable adventures was when I went hiking and camped in the snow at Palm Springs last year.It impacted on my life because I have never been hiking or camped in the snow before. Hiking and camping in the snow taught me to wear the right clothing, altitude changes, try not to slip on the icy snow, and the hike up the mountain to get to our camping spot is tiring.

  13. My adventure took place when I was visiting the Philippines. As a five year old I followed whoever was in charge of me, which was my fourteen year old cousin. Since my cousin was very adventurous, we went and explored the busy streets of Manila. We kept walking around until we got to the wrong side of the city and I knew then that we were not safe. The homeless people began to come toward us and my cousin and I began to scream. Thankfully my dad came to save the day. That adventure made me more alert of the surroundings in certain areas and I learned that being adventurous means you also have to be very safe.

  14. The best experiences of my life were when I was staying in Kauai on vacation. It was summertime and out house was in the middle of this lush forest, and in the middle of the night you could hear all the animals scurring about, not to mention the always random, five minute rains. Then when you woke up you would look outside and see tons of green, with little plumeria trees taking up the empty spaces. At the beach the beuty was tormenting, and the ocean couldn't get any more blue. Although the scenery was stunning it was my favorite adventure because I got to lay in the sun all day for two weeks. My reward by the end of the day was an amazing tan and wonderful food. That is why it was my best adventure yet.

  15. One of the biggest adventures in my life was when I rode my bike to school the first time. I was so excited to go all by myself. My good friend and I had it all planned out. We would meet at my house at 7:45 am. I was scared that something would happen. I thought of my bike breaking or the chain falling off. As we made our way down the long blocks I realized that it wasn't as scary as I had predicted. We made it to school just in time for the elementary gates to open.

  16. I was in Mexico, and their was a storm going on. After the storm all of the sand was churned up, so all fof the fish were out and swimming around I went out diving. When I went down I couldn't see the bottom, and when I got down their I couldn't see the top. It was really exiting, and we saw millions of fish. This taught me that nature is very beutiful, and now I can't wait to go diving again.

  17. One time I was in Mexico and we were on a small boat site seeing and looking at islands when I decided that we should go to a certain island. While we were on our way we were in a very narrow path. I got kind of nervous, but I saw this big open space. We rode over to the space and we discovered a Volcano!!! Fortunetley the volcano was not active anymore. The coolest part was that the volcano was under water. That trip was the most exciting trip I had ever been on.

  18. This adventure was on a cold December morning. My family and I went to camp in the beach twelve hours apart from our House. We woke up at four a.m. and arrive at two in the afternoon. We were really tired went we arrived but we had to put the shop tent before there is no sun. We had to load everything from my car to the place where we had to camp. This was very tired but fun because when you do something in a team everything is easier. During the following days I really had fun camping and I learned that you do not always have to be in the best hotel to have fun. It was an experience of my life that I will repeat.

  19. One of the biggest adventures I have ever taken in my life was when I was seven and went to Hawaii the first time. I had never been on a plane ride so long and it scared me as we flew over the Pacific Ocean. I got lost at one point, and I couldn't find my hotel for a few hours, which terrified me. In the end I had a great time in Hawaii, and I love traveling because of my big trip.

  20. My biggest adventure was traveling the Australian outback, by myself, as I was running from some Australian warriors. They shot me with a tranquilizer dart in the leg. I was not going to let that stop me. So I ran 33.651 miles to the nearest ocean, with the tranquilizer dart still in me. I stayed concious, and I swam back to Coronado.

  21. One summer, my family and I took a vacation to Colorado Springs. We went white-water rafting in one of the rivers. It impacted my life because it was something very fun and exciting with my family and it was an experience that I will never forget. I learned that working together as a team can make things like white-water rafting a lot easier and more enjoyable. It was cool how everyone could be apart of it. It is something I definitely want to do again some day.

  22. On the last day of a summer camp I was at on Catalina Island, a group of boys and I hiked up the third tallest peak on the island to see the sunrise. It was pitch when we started, and trail was a fifty degree slope. At some points on the hike the footing was so bad that we had to scramble up on all fours. Once we reached the top however, the whole hike became worth it. The layer of clouds floating above the island was painted in all the colors of the rainbow, with the night sky visible below them. I realized that no matter how hard the journey is, the end will always be worth it.

  23. My most recent adventure would be riding my bike down to 7-11, which was about half a mile from my house. My mom was jokingly asking for a Pepsi, and I offered to ride my bike down to the 7-11 and get everyone soda, slurpees, and candy. My mom wasn't very excited about the idea, she didn't like the idea of me going around town by myself, but she finally caved in when I convinced her I was old enough. So I grabbed a $10 bill and hopped on my bike and proceeded to ride down the huge hill, locked my bike to a pole, and bought the orders of various sodas, slurpee suicides and candies. Walking back up the hill was a pain.

  25. A couple of years ago during summer, my family and I took a trip to the coast of an island in Italy. We rented a small boat and went boating out into the ocean we traveled for about 15 minutes until we started to explore more deaply around the coast of the island. It was cool becuase we discovered some pretty awesome beaches and the best part about it is that we were the only people there. So we would dock there and swim for about 30 minutes or so and then we went back out and found another beach or a cave. The rest of the day we spent exploring the side of the cliffs and that was about it.

  26. When I was younger, I often traveled around Europe because I lived in Spain. We often went to Greece, but the second time, we went with my mother’s friend and her daughter, who was my friend, to celebrate new years. We were flying Space A on a military plane. There was a connecting flight and somehow, my friend and I managed to get completely separated from our moms. At the time, she was five years old, and I was six. After wandering around, we decided to go to the terminal and ask. It turns out, our moms hadn’t even noticed we were gone! After finally being reunited with our mothers, we found it hard to leave their sides, or even move seats on the plane. Although it doesn’t sound that interesting, this was definitely a scary, and exciting adventure for me, I have learned how to handle that kind of situation which really comes in handy.

  27. When I was younger I went on an adventure to find my friends dog, which had been lost the whole day. We couldn’t find him anywhere. We looked around the park, we looked around the neighborhood, and even left treats for him but he still wouldn’t come up. Finally as we were walking back to her house from the park, we heard a bark. Then we heard another one and we could swear that it was Cracker. We walked closer to the house and past by a house that was being built, and it had a big fence around it. He was in there! We were wondering how he got in there but why he couldn’t come out, As we were thinking I said that he probably got in there when they were building that day and he got in while the fence was open and they closed it when he was still in there. We dug a whole under the fence with a shovel that Paula had in her garage and he came out. That dog had us worried. I felt good when we found him, because when you find something that you have been looking for all day it feels good to have victory.

  28. The adventurous time of my life was when I traveled to Mexico by myself on a plane. I had great experience there. I have to admit it was pretty scary when I got on the plane knowing that my mom or dad wasn’t going to be there with me. I made some friend on my way to Mexico and after a while I got pretty comfortable. When I finally arrived at the airport I got kind of scared. A lot of things were going through my mind; I mean come on I was only 8 when I did this. I keep thinking that maybe someone was going to want to take me or that my family wasn’t going to be able to find me. When I felt the first drop of tear running on my cheek I realized my family was calling my name on the other side. No need to be scared anymore. When I got to their house I was excited to see the family and overjoyed I saw my grandpa but I knew something was missing; my parents. I tried forgetting about home while I was playing with my cousins and I did. At night when I went to sleep I couldn’t sleep I stayed up all night thinking about My bed and my home. That night I realized there there’s no place like home. I decide I could talk to parents over the phone to make me feel better and it worked I was no longer homesick. But still there is no place like home.

  29. When I was 9 years old I got to travel to Russia with my family and see and orphanage. This orphanage was extremely run down and housed 200 children between the ages of five and eighteen. The orphanage had no hot water and all they served for dinner was soup and old stale bread. This orphanage was where we adopted my sister, Lida. Going to a Russian orphanage made me realize how many children in the world live in poverty and without parents. I will never forget this life changing trip.

  30. In the twenty-first century, with the newest mind blowing technology at our fingertips, all that runs through our minds when we walk by a store window is what we want and don't have. You may see your friends with the newest iPod and say to yourself, "I just have to have it!" As your contemplating how you are possibly going to save up enough money to buy it, you are taking for granted all of the nice things that you already have. Even if you don't have the latest style of boots, you still have a loving family, friends, food and water, a place to live, an education, and you are surrounded by people who love you and care about you. I remember when I was about twelve years old and my friends had all gotten the iPod Nano for Christmas. I was at the mall with them and they were walking around blaring their music. I felt like they were rubbing it right in my face because I didn't have one. I lied to them and told them that I got one too, but I left it at home in my other purse. I felt like I was the only twelve year old without an iPod, and I was embarrassed. The next day, I saw one of my friends talking on the phone with her mom. She later told me through tears that her dog had just died. That really made me think about how selfish I was for being upset over an iPod when people all over the world are experiencing losses far worse than mine, and that some people don't even have a home or a family. After I saw the grief in my friend's eyes, I began to view the world differently. Instead of wanting what I don't have, I began to thank God for what I do have. It's time for the world to stop wanting hat they don't have, and to start appreciate all of the joys of their everyday lives.

  31. I visited my hometown, Rizal, Philippines. I had not been there in ten years, but everyday was an adventure. I got to see how different Philippines is from California. I also got to see the mountains with beautiful carvings that expressed Filipino beliefs. From this adventure, I learned that people in the Philippines treat eachother like family. For example, on my father's street, each neighbor would greet everyone they see and have a short conversation with them even if they haven't met them before. They even had a chat with my parents and that same night we were having dinner with them. Philippines and California is very differnt, with only one thing in common. They are both my home.

  32. I love looking out the small window and being above the clouds. I didn’t enjoy this however when I was first told about the wonderful thing called an "air plane". I was five years old and I had never ever been on a plane or left the state. Everyone was excited about the vacation, but not me. All I knew was that we would be thousands and thousands of miles off the ground and would go splat if anything when wrong. I was so terrified but I couldn't stay home all by myself so I decide, with some help, that I would go on the plane with my family. I got on the plane and closed the window shade. The plane left the grown and we were off. I was horrified, and couldn't move. That is until the seat belt sign when off and I realized nothing was happening. I opened the window and gazed at the small lakes, and land below up. I loved it. This experience completely changed me, because now I know it you don't leave your comfort zone you many never discover something you adore.

  33. One of the biggest adventures of my life is when I went to Mexico to build a house for a local. Their family's house has literally fallen down. They had half of a house to live in. Over a week, the people I came with built a brand new house for them. This showed me how people have to live, It taught may very important skills in life.

  34. My most memorable adventure was probably when I went to Turkey one summer. It was amazing to see their cultures, the people and its religion. This taught me that we should not forget about the amazing things of other countries. It had beautiful monuments, and the markets where so interesting. When I went into their place of worship, I had to take my shoes off and cover my face. It did have an impact on me because it was shocking to see al of the differences of our countries!

  35. A time in my life where I went on an adventure was when I went to a camp in Ohio called Camp Cherith. I went for about a week and a half when I was around 9 years old and I adventured through the woods, the lake, and outdoors in a creek. I slept in a cabin and learned how to take care of myself without being able to have all of the things that I have where I really live. I learned how to shoot targets with a gun and learned horseback riding. This impacted my life because it taught me that you can’t just live off of the things that are made and rely on the electronics and things like that. You have to be able to take care of yourself without the extra things thrown in and taking care of yourself using natural objects. Who knows when you will need to have those extra skills that you don’t usually think of. I learned how to survive in the open and trust myself to be careful with everything I do. I had a lot of fun and hope that I can do something like that again.

  36. I once was on a hiking/camping trip with my friend and his parents. We were in Palm Springs, and while on the trail I stopped to look at this weird rock. To my surprise it was a geode! I found out that it was a geode when we got back to the hotel and cracked it open. It was wonderful with its purple, green, and bluish crystals inside. What I learned from this trip was, instead of rushing through and not taking the time to stop and take in the sights around you, STOP FOR A MOMENT! You can be surprised in what you find! =)

  37. When I was 9, my family and I were living in Maine. One day, we decided to go to Acadia for the weekend. Acadia is in the mountains so my dad decided to take us on a hike. Being the great navigator that he is, we were lost within 30 minutes. We tried not to panic, but two hours later the sun had begun to sink and we were no closer to finding our way back then before. It was pitch black, but eventually we did fin the car. The next day, while we were driving, we hit a deer. I spent the entire day trying to clean the car... It was disgusting. The day after that, we were going to eat a picnic lunch, so we packed our food and set off. Ten minutes into the picnic it started pouring. We just decided to go home. That vacation taught me something though. I learned that nothing's perfect, and even when it’s not, you still end up having a fun time.

  38. Last year, i moved to Indiana. I moved at the end of October, three days before Halloween. I went to stay with my grandparents while my parents drove from San Diego. When they got there we moved into our big house. My dad had to leave because he was in the military and was still stationed in San Diego. We lived there for a little over half a year, and every day i would go to school and then go to the gym. I remember one day me and my brother Charles went across the street from our house to this forest. We went in a long way but we remembered our way back just in case. Thats when a wolf ran past us to go and attack a deer that we saw a while back that had passed us. We started to run as fast as we could because we didnt know if the wolf would attack us. We finally made it back to our house out of breath, and scared to death. We told everyone we knew about this incident. About a month later, we all decided as a family tht we didnt like it there and wanted to move back to San Diego. So we started packing and we made our rode trip all the way back. We went through at least five states and each one we took a picture as a souveniour. And now we are back in San Diego and we are all happy to be back with our friends.

  39. My adventure dosen't have to do with nature or other exciting trips, mine deals with the old saying "money isn't everything". I went on a buisness trip with my two aunts, mother, grandfather, and grandmother. We went to get papers done for my grandfather's land in Mexico, ready for when he passes away. Along the way, we had some freetime so we visited my two grandparents' families. As soon as we met them, I discovered that they had a more difficult life than i could've ever had. They had no formal education, barely enough money to support their big families, and the lack of the basic essentials that Americans have everyday. I thought life for them was hard in such poor conditions, but they lived by having each other. My family did not care what they had but who they had, and family was the most important item any of them could've had. I am grateful for that life lesson, and I have lived by it since.

During this trip I was able to see how pretty our country is, On my journey I saw places I would love to live, and some places that I wouldn't I am now more thankful for the country I live in. At the end of the trip my brother got his car, and I got an experience of a life time.

  41. Over the past winter break, most of my gymnastics team, my family, and my coach all went to Disney World for a gymnastics competition. It was an adventure because we went over New Years and didn't know what to expect. The first day we went to Magic Kingdom and only went on two rides. Later that day, we went to Epcot where there is an imitation of almost every country in the world. Their fireworks show was amazing. The next two days it was raining so we swam and hung out with the team. The next day was our competition and it was exciting because it real level 7 meet. Everyone on my team did very well, and i got first place on beam, which was amazing because it was the event that I was most afraid of. All in all, it was quite an adventure because of all the fun I had with my teammates and got to know them a little bit better.

  42. I have had many adventures in my life. But one of the most memorable was when I went hiking with my cousins. It was late in the afternoon, in the summer in Nevada; we were coming home from a five hour hike. When we were getting closer to our house we saw a bear. My cousins saw it but I was not aware of the bear. My cousins warned me and before I knew it, the bear was twenty feet away from me. I was in shock at first that I was so close to a bear, but the bear just went its way and my cousins and I went our way. As we could see our house from the top of the mountain, we had found a dear antler. Then we had enough fun and we went down the mountain to our house.

  43. Once upon a time, I was swimming in my grandparents lake. My grandma warned me about the snapping turtles but i didn't think much of it. So while i was swimming this big, huge turtle went swimming past me very fast, just brushing my leg. When i looked behind me to see what it was i noticed all these little turtles swimming towards me. Quickly i tried to swim to the edge of the lake to get out. As i was trying to get up on the wall a turtle caught hold of my toe. I tried to shake it off, and as i did, i fell back in the lake. At that moment, all the turtle tried to attack me. I leaped out of the water and onto the ground before any turtle could snap me. Once i thought i was safe, i lifted my head and two turtles came leaping out of the water and that's when my super hero powers kicked in. I battled the flying/snapping turtles. Hitting them to the ground, breaking off their shells, anything i could do to protect myself. And just as one of the turtles grabbed my leg there was a ringing in my ears and everything was fading to black and then i sat up in my bed and realized it was all a dream. Well i learned that dreams are very different then reality, and when an adult who is in charge tells you not to do something you shouldn't do it, whether in dream or reality. Best adventure of my life. The End.

  44. Not all adventures occur in the wild, or even outdoors for that matter. Sometimes, they happen in your daily life. Ever since I was seven, I have been competing in rhythmic gymnastics, so as you may imagine, long practices and nerve racking competitions are part of my day to day life. Last year, my entire competition season was an adventure for me. I had a lofty goal; I wanted to become an elite gymnast. As you may imagine, becoming an elite is no easy task. It takes hours and hours of training, not to mention the many competitions that you have to do well at to qualify for elite. Only twelve girls in the junior category are elites in the entire nation. From January until June, I practiced four hours a day, six days a week whether I wanted to go that day or not. When school got out in June, I was practicing five to six hours a day. Don't get me wrong, I love my sport, but as you may imagine, I didn't exactly look forward to going to practice every single one of those six hour days. I trained (and competed) through injury as well. Sore muscles and bruises became the norm. After months and months of practice and competition, I had one more competition, Visa Championships, that would determine if I would become an elite - my ultimate goal. I was so nervous, but I knew that I couldn't let all of my intense training go to waste. The competition was rigorous and scary and far from perfect, but I did make my goal. I became an elite gymnast. From my year of adventure, I learned that if you really set your mind to something and try as hard as you can to accomplish it, you will. This experience impacted my life because now I really know that where there's a will, there's a way, and anything is possible.

  45. One of my most memorable adventures occurred when I went through the process of learning to scuba dive. At first, I thought it was more learning than I could handle. I knew that the experience of learning how to breathe under water would be worth it. On my first trip underwater I experienced the amazing world under the ocean. The rigorous learning process was a lot to take in while keeping up with school, but I am glad that I pushed myself to become certified. I learned that if something is challenging, but it is an important goal it is well worth the sacrifices to make it happen.

  46. Over the last summer I went on a trip with some of my family to a place I had never been before. First of all, I had never been out of the continent of North America. I do travel a descent amount, but I had just never reached past the borders of North America. That all changed though. This most recent summer I went to Scotland. It was so exciting and a new experience for me. I went to different museums and all sorts of wonderful, new, and exciting places that gave me a different view of the many cultures around the world. We even got to stay in a castle. I learned a lot just by the castle we stayed in. I noticed the style and the rooms were different than the average house in America. The ceilings were tall, the castle had many stories, and different rooms such as a library. This trip definitley was fun, but it also gave me an educational look on things and taught me some of the different cultures and old styles of various places in Scotland.

  47. A few years back, my grandparents and my sisters and I went to yellowstone national park. At first I didn't want to go because I thought that seeing a bunch of nature and animals wasn't going to be fun. When I got there and took in all the beauty that I had missed when I was to preoccupied with my phone and my ipod and other man-made appliances. I saw wild buffalo, elk, and I watched Old Faithful erupt. Being immersed in the natural world was something foreign to me but something that I knew I had missed out on. Ever since then I don't knock things until I try them and I make sure not to get swept away by the fast pace life that most Americans lead and to just take time to stop and smell the roses.

  48. I have been on very many adventures in my life but the greatest adventure I have experienced was when I went whitewater rafting in Colorado. I had been on rapids many times before but this day we were going rafting for six hours. The first half of the trip was very enjoyable and easy but when our guide told us we were coming up to a class 4.5 rapid and that most people get flipped on this certain rapid I was a little scared. I thought it would be exciting though until I finally saw it, it looked like a toilet bowl, not dirty, but the way it was swirling around like a whirlpool. We all had to paddle as hard as we could but even then our raft was pushed up on a rock and the water started to suck me out. I was horrified and I clung to the rope on the outside of the raft for dear life, but it didn’t take long for the incredible force of the current to tear off my grip. I remember having the biggest adrenaline rush of my life right at this moment. I saw bubbles rushing past, rocks, and fish. When I came up I discovered my mom had also been sucked out of the raft but she was panicking a lot and she forgot to look back at our guide too see what to do, so I reminded her. We turned around to see our guide and my dad out of the raft but still holding on. My sister on the other hand was being plastered to the raft by my aunt who wasn’t going to let anything bad happen to her. I told my mom we had to get to the shore because there was another rapid coming up soon, we had to swim in a diagonal patter to shore but we made it just in time. It was the most exciting moment of my life. I learned how to be calm even during a very scary time.

  49. I had lots of adventures in my life, but the best adventure was when I went on a Boy Scout camping trip to the Kern River. It is my greatest adventure because it was the first time I went white water rafting. While I was kayaking I fell in the water twice. It was an impact on my life because it was something that I will always remember in my life.

  50. I believe that the U.S should allow birthright citizenship because if your born in the U.S., it’s ridiculous to make a mother and father with their newborn child and make them go to a different country to register a child. I believe that if you are born in the United States you should automatically become a united states citizen. I agreed with Alfonso Aguilar when he says "But you are damaging relations with the Latino community." The Mexicans will start to hold grudges against the people who send them back to where they come from. If will be even harder for those who have been in America for many years and are then sent back to Mexico because of their children. With changing the laws of birthright citizenship in the 14th amendment, the challenges that come with that are that many people that are here illegally will start to struggle with their children. They will begin to debate over if they should leave their good, well-formed life in the United States, for the life they had before in which they struggled in. I believe that the 14th amendment should stay the same.
